For Immediate Release
MoveOn.org Political Action has sent out emails to its large base announcing that Norman Solomon is the "recommended" candidate for Congress in California's North Coast district in the June 5 primary. Solomon received the recommendation as a result of his first-place finish in an online poll of MoveOn.org members in the Congressional district. The polling was part of the MoveOn-powered Progressive Ballot Guide project.
"I am truly honored to have earned this recommendation following the survey of MoveOn's tens of thousands of members throughout the 2nd Congressional District," said Norman Solomon. "The polling gives a sense of whom grassroots voters in the district support -- not whom big money donors and corporate interests support. Our campaign is obviously energizing the grassroots."
MoveOn.org is one of the most influential grassroots organizations in the country among progressive and liberal voters, with a national membership of 7 million people.
Solomon campaign manager Dan Mullen said: "We’re battling two big-spending, corporate-connected Democrats -- including one with little presence in the district except her ability to buy advertising. It's reassuring to see our message resonating among MoveOn activists, and we're confident they're spreading the word to other voters to help us win on June 5."
Mullen added: "The MoveOn poll shows once again -- this is a battle between the grassroots and entrenched, big-money power."
In March, Solomon won the endorsement of the influential grassroots group Democracy for America, after an online poll in which he finished second out of 200 liberal/progressive Congressional candidates nationwide. Solomon finished behind former Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL), who enthusiastically endorsed Solomon last week.
